Custom Domain
Connect the domain you own to your site — the four wizard steps, what each screen shows, and what to do when a check fails.
Your site goes live on a domain you own. Your domain is yours — you keep the address, and everything the platform builds lives on it.
Who sees the wizard
Your firm's Director finds it at Website Settings → Custom Domain. The page appears once domain management is switched on for your site; if you do not see it, ask the team at hello@upliftcre.com.
The wizard walks four steps, with a progress line across the top: Enter Domain → Configure DNS → Activate → Live!
Step 1: Enter Your Domain
Enter the custom domain you want your site on. It should be a domain you already own — for example, www.yourdomain.com.
- The field is labeled Your Custom Domain, with the
https://prefix already in place. - Enter just the domain — no
http://and no paths. - Click Save Domain & Continue.
You will see "Domain saved! Now configure your DNS records below."
Step 2: Configure Your DNS
Now you tell the internet where to find your domain. The wizard shows an Add This DNS Record table with the record type, the name/host, the value it points to, and a copy button (Copy Hostname or Copy IP).
Add the record at your domain registrar, then:
- Using Cloudflare for your DNS? Set the record to "DNS only" (grey cloud) — not "Proxied". The wizard warns about this for a reason: a proxied record fails the check.
- Click Check DNS & Continue.
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. Usually it takes 5–30 minutes. If the check fails — "DNS is not yet pointing to..." — the fix is patience: wait, then run the check again.
Changed your mind about the domain? Open Want to use a different domain? and click Start Over.
Step 3: Activate Your Domain
"Your DNS is verified! Your domain is pointing to our server." Click Activate Domain to complete the setup.
Read the two boxes on this screen before you click:
- What happens when you activate — a short checklist of what changes.
- You will need to log in again — activating moves your site to its new address, so you are signed out and sent to the login screen at your new domain. That is normal, and it happens only once.
Step 4: Live
"Your custom domain is now live! It may take a few minutes for SSL to fully propagate."
The final screen shows the details: your domain, the SSL certificate state (Installed, Pending, or Failed), when it was activated, your original URL, and the CDN status. Two buttons from here:
- Purge Cache — refresh the site's cached pages.
- Check Status — re-run the domain and SSL checks.
An Activity Log at the bottom records every action taken on the domain — when, what, and by whom.
Good to know
- The security certificate is automatic. Nothing to buy, nothing to renew, nothing to configure.
- Reverting is supported. After going live, open Revert to Original Domain at the bottom of the page and confirm — your site moves back to its original URL. Later, you can enter a new domain and start over.
- Your site stays hidden from search engines until your domain is live. The preview is private; the go-live is yours.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "DNS is not yet pointing to..." | The record has not propagated yet, or it was entered wrong | Double-check the record at your registrar, watch for the Cloudflare proxy setting, and wait — usually 5–30 minutes, up to 48 hours |
| The check keeps failing with Cloudflare on | The record is Proxied (orange cloud) | Switch it to "DNS only" (grey cloud) and re-run the check |
| SSL shows Pending after going live | The certificate is still settling | Wait a few minutes, then Check Status |
| SSL shows Failed | The certificate could not be issued | Contact hello@upliftcre.com |
| You were signed out after activating | Expected — the site moved to its new address | Log in again at your new domain; it happens only once |
| You want a different domain | — | Before activating: Start Over. After going live: Revert to Original Domain, then start the wizard again |
